Maynah Lewis Competition 2015

The theme of this year's competition is:
What did you see in the bottom of your cup/glass when you stirred your drink?
The submission day is the meeting on 15th May.
Admission is free.
A pseudonym should be used. Your own name should not appear anywhere on your entry. Please submit a sealed envelope with both the title of the piece and your real name, so we can marry up the two after the result has been announced.
Max word count: 1600 words. The limit is strict, but per your own word processor word count. (We accept there are sometimes small variations)
Entries are to be double spaced using a conventional font such as Times New Roman or Courier.

So there you have it. Get writing.

Writing the story is the easy bit (sort of!) it's following all the instructions correctly that scares me! What if you label something wrong and get disqualified on that silly error - eek!

We were very lucky, and pleased, that we got this person to judge this year's entrants. Gee Williams began her creative journey as a poet. She has had work published in a variety of places, including -   The Pan Book of Horror and being broadcast by BBC Radio 4. She has won many book awards including The Book Pl@ce Contemporary Short Story Awards, Pure Gold Fiction Award 2008, and was short-listed for Wales Book of the Year 2009. The winner of this years Maynah Lewis Competition is, Liz Fisher.  Liz's story, Checkout Nine , was an amusing tale set in the seaside resort of Blackpool, of singer, River Banks and a chance game of darts. Hello writers, Just a reminder that tonight will be our first night to try out a new venue. We will be meeting at The Bridge Inn, Port Sunlight Village, as a trial run for future meetings. As mentioned at the last meeting, we will be having a meal beforehand - in lieu of our Christmas Dinner - so please attend at 6pm, after which, we will retire to another room to continue our usual club session. Hi everyone, Just a few words to say what a lovely day we had on Sunday at Brook Meadows. The meal was very good and the company excellent. (It goes without saying) Once again the flash ficition proved a hit. The choice of words gave a lot of scope for some quite inventive tales. I'm sorry I didn't say good-bye to everyone. I got talking and it was five o'clock before we realised it and I assumed that everybody had left. I think Doreen and myself were the last to leave. The weather, well what can be said of such a stunning Summer Day. the hottest I believe for a few years. Arthur didn't make it because he had hurt his foot but hopes to be with us on Friday. I didn't pick his email up until Monday. I've uploaded this photo but it's too small and I'm not sure how to make it larger. I'll print one out for Friday and bring it with me.
